The Cypress Head homeowner whose children's butterfly garden remains under threat of destruction reports the following update:
On 15 March 2021, G.L., a Cypress Head Board member and Cypress Head NextDoor Lead emailed her and falsely accused her of sharing an image of his family on this blog. He threatened legal recourse. He referred to an image of a screenshot that publicly circulated throughout Parkland and Boca Raton and consisted of a roll of names and avatars of NextDoor leads who voted to mute and ban her earlier posts. G.L., as Lead, appeared to promote the charges and vilify her despite his claims on the contrary.
The tiny image that he referred was a grainy avatar that featured an image of Mickey Mouse. Yes, Mickey Mouse. The faces of ALL of the individuals in the photo were erased and only Mickey Mouse was seemingly discernible in the tiny avatar. Was this Lead now masquerading as Mickey Mouse? There were no identifiable characteristics of humans in the avatar unless, of course, G.L. now claimed to identify himself as Mickey Mouse. She immediately submitted his request to the technicians to remove the tiny and indiscernible avatar (which, she reminded him, also appears publicly on NextDoor and was not removed as of the posting of this blog on 17 March 2021). The technicians quickly and completely covered the microscopic and grainy avatar in response to his request.
She also assured G.L. that the post was only seen by two people at the time of his inquiry.
According to the public counter; one was his view; the other, her view.
What could G.L. seek legal recourse from the butterfly garden homeowner for? A ticket to the Magic Kingdom? NO ONE saw this grainy, microscopic avatar that covered EVERY human in it. She retained PLENTY of evidence on a Cloud that she could quickly deploy to file a countersuit against him. A few of these items were highlighted in earlier blogs. Again, why all of this drama about the fate of a children's butterfly garden? She wondered, after this heated exchange of emails, if she was now in Disney World
or Cypress Head... or both.
G.L. then indicated that he was going to block her emails.
(Let's reiterate that it was HE who initiated contact AGAIN with her, this time, by email.)
She later attempted to alert Cypress Head residents and others in Parkland on NextDoor
of the need to continue to express support for the fate of the children's butterfly garden. Cypress Head residents (who are not members and/ or spouses of the HOA, ARB, and/ or leadership) were, CLEARLY, terrified of lending support online due to what appears Cancel Culture practices, retaliation, alienation, and selective enforcement actions that may result from an innocuous post, such as one on butterflies, on Cypress Head NextDoor. Contrastingly, others across Parkland, where there were fewer restrictions on free speech, were very vocal in their support for the protection of the children's butterfly garden. Thankfully, many Cypress Head residents actually voiced support for the children's butterfly garden OFF of NextDoor.
According to one message, "What a great platform to showcase how you've been treated and for full transparency of our HOA towards certain homeowners. That was a clever and bold move..."
Another message read, "I noticed dozens of cars ... drive slowly past your butterfly garden. I'm praying it's the positive attention and alliance needed."
Another encouraging message read: "Thank you for having a voice for all of us."
Soon someone who appeared to be another bully on NextDoor emerged from behind a keyboard. In Cypress Head.
It seemed like the trappings of a Zombie Apocalypse, or possibly worse.
A.O., another Cypress Head resident, seemed to launch an attack on the butterfly garden homeowner. A.O. seemed to berate her, to slander her, and to trivialize the matter. (A.O. is the wife of the masked ARB member (C.O.) who seemed to bully the homeowner and cut her out on Zoom at two ARB meetings that she attended. This was all described in a blog post entitled, "What to expect when you're expecting.... to attend an ARB meeting.") Surprise. No surprise.
Clearly, A.O. seems to know little to nothing about the children's butterfly garden and the baseless charges that led to its proposed destruction. Does she know that this garden
is certified by the county as a NatureScape property? Does she know that there is an application pending with the state for it to receive Florida Friendly Landscaping designation? Does she even know anything about Florida Statutes governing gardens or federal laws that protect endangered butterflies? Yet, she seems to think that she knows enough to direct the butterfly garden homeowner to move out of the community! Really? Who is she to angrily tell any homeowner what they can or cannot do and where to go?
These attacks made others wonder what kind of job A.O. has that affords her a platform on NextDoor to try to bully and belittle others who she does not know on matters that she seems to know little to nothing about. Interestingly, concerns about online bullying by HOA Board members and/ or ARB members and/ or their spouses were repeatedly communicated to the president, Board, and management company of Cypress Head for the last six months to no avail.
Unsurprisingly, when residents' concerns are ignored or discounted, more online bullying perpetuates in Cypress Head. This, folks, is unacceptable in any community.
The butterfly garden homeowner politely responded to A.O. that her husband, as a volunteer on the ARB, should also start to treat female residents with dignity and respect.
Unsurprisingly, others noticed A.O.'s remarks (and responses) before they were quickly and magically deleted from Cypress Head NextDoor. (Maybe C.O. promoted the quick deletion of the messages?)
Only two of several screenshots are included herein.
Folks, bullying accomplishes NOTHING and, in this case, shows others how the Cypress Head HOA and property management company seem to foster this culture that continues to pit Board members (and/ or their spouses) against other residents OR residents against residents. These are unacceptable practices in Cypress Head and in any other HOA community.
These bullying behaviors seem to destroy community spirit and potentially tarnish the image of a beautiful community, even if the remarks are deleted after they are typed.
Screen shots are very useful for this reason.
Meanwhile, someone, some residents, and/ or some associates of these residents, are monitoring and appear to be promoting the deleting, muting, and/ or censoring of EVERY NextDoor post that relates to this butterfly garden in Cypress Head NextDoor in real-time. Who is this person and/ or group of persons and why do they feel so threatened over butterflies? Seriously. Pause and think about this for a moment. Butterflies.
Are these more of the feverish pursuits of the butterfly cops?
Why are residents not being told who is policing NextDoor content in Cypress Head?
The Leads claim that they are unaware of any censoring of posts. Yet, as shown in another blog post, there is evidence that one CypressHead Lead appeared to promote the removal of several of the homeowner's posts on NextDoor.
Why is there such secrecy?
Why is this censorship even allowed to persist when it is unconstitutional?
Online bullying AND online censorship must not be condoned whether it occurs in Cypress Head or not.
As long as NextDoor is also being used as what appears to be bait to fuel the violation notice mill and selective enforcement practices that seem to target certain Cypress Head residents, then it's time for a new approach.
Still further, it is a wake-up call to EVERY resident that it might be a good time to:
1. Get off of (or limit access to) NextDoor.
2. Move to another app for Cypress Head happenings.
3. Use an online alias.
4. Circumvent what appears to be a huge frustration to a lot of residents and, according to online sources, realtors.
What a great way to advertise our beautiful community and neighborly spirit!
Friends, neighbors, and butterfly defenders: If this Cypress Head female homeowner was NEVER bullied, silenced, mocked, vilified, muted, and retaliated against in the Cypress Head ARB and Board meetings and on NextDoor, then she NEVER would have needed to divulge such details in a blog to defend her children's butterfly garden. Importantly, the president of the Cypress Head HOA appears to harbor a LONG vendetta against the butterfly garden homeowner for a NextDoor post on butterflies and a community survey (on possible property damages). (This appears to be a pattern with other homeowners, according to online sources.) He also shuts her out of a recent Board meeting following her presentation and tells her to "get back to your children". He also tells her at a recent ARB meeting, "I don't care about your butterfly garden. I don't want to see it." Imagine such heartache to protect a children's butterfly garden on a side property on an impasse, nowhere near where he lives. He puts her through the wringer with numerous ARB submissions, fool's exercises, that are all rejected in what appears to be a male-dominated kangaroo court. The homeowner tries numerous times to resolve these matters with him only he seems VERY recalcitrant. He seems to invent his own rules and punishments. Furthermore, when the homeowner starts an independent wildlife group, he appears to want control of it with another male member of the ARB. He pressures her to resign from her own independent group and she patently declines to do it. Obviously, the president of the Cypress Head HOA really upset the apple cart throughout Parkland this time due these selective enforcement tactics and threats to destroy her children's butterfly garden.
Public opinion favors butterflies and not bullies.
Folks, what this also seems to show is that it's high time for the Cypress Head president, vice president, ARB Board, HOA Board, and management company
to resign as MANY in Parkland are now calling for them to do online (before such posts are removed and deleted on NextDoor).
Remember this at election time or start a petition to recall the votes!
And this is what calling out kangaroos is all about!
Please call and email your support for the C. children's butterfly garden
in Cypress Head that now faces destruction in Cypress Head, a premier community in Parkland, Florida. Tell them that it cannot be destroyed. Thank you.

The destruction of this butterfly habitat cannot be allowed to happen in Cypress Head as it sets a negative precedent for other HOA communities to follow. Thank you.
The City of Parkland Mayor's Office now plans to work with the HOA and butterfly garden homeowner in an attempt to resolve this matter. Thank you to all supporters and butterfly defenders.
